Walk through the arched entrance of Short Wet One and you'll understand why this particular tunnel has become one of our most requested spaces at The Vaults. The Victorian brickwork curves overhead in a perfect vault, creating an intimate atmosphere that wraps around your guests like the tunnels themselves once wrapped around London's earliest underground railways. We've kept this space deliberately raw, with exposed brick walls that tell their own story through decades of weathering. The room comfortably holds up to 100 standing guests, though we often see groups of 60 using it for more intimate gatherings where the architecture becomes part of the experience. Strings of warm lighting run along the walls, casting shadows that dance across the brickwork, while our basic sound and lighting equipment lets you layer in whatever atmosphere you're after. The natural acoustics of the curved ceiling work brilliantly for live performances, and we've hosted everything from underground poetry nights to experimental music sessions here. Art installations particularly come alive in this space, where artists use the textured walls and atmospheric lighting as part of their canvas. For drinks receptions, the tunnel creates natural conversation pockets where guests gather, moving between the warmth of the main space and the cooler edges where the brick stays damp to the touch. Getting here couldn't be easier with Waterloo and Lambeth North stations directly above us. The slightly mysterious journey down to find us adds to the sense of discovery your guests experience. Our midnight license means you've got flexibility with timing, and you're welcome to work with your own caterers to create exactly the experience you want. The industrial character of Short Wet One transforms beautifully whether you're planning an immersive pop-up, late-night gathering, or something entirely unexpected in this forgotten corner of London.
