The Tea Room sits right above St Helen's Square, where daylight pours through our floor-to-ceiling windows and catches the intricate blue and white tiles beneath your feet. We've kept the original wood paneling from when this was part of Terry's Chocolate Orange headquarters, giving the space that warm Yorkshire character our guests love. Twenty of you can gather around our long banquet table, or we can clear the furniture for drinks receptions hosting up to 40. The private bar tucked into the corner means your group has its own bartender, mixing cocktails or pouring champagne without anyone having to leave the conversation. We dress the space differently depending on your celebration - red linens and seasonal greenery for Christmas parties, pastel florals for baby showers, or crisp white settings for corporate brunches overlooking the square. Our kitchen sends up those famous afternoon teas on vintage tiered stands, though we're equally happy serving champagne breakfasts or late-night cheese boards. The PA system handles everything from background jazz to party playlists, while the air conditioning keeps everyone comfortable even when the dance floor gets going. Being on the ground floor with lift access means everyone can join the party. The best part about hosting here is the flexibility. Morning mimosa workshops flow into afternoon celebrations, hen parties start with cocktail making at the private bar before heading upstairs to our Wonderbar. The square below provides endless entertainment between courses, and York Minster is just a five-minute stroll when guests want some air. Our events team knows exactly how to arrange the room for your numbers, whether that's one long feast or separate tables for mingling. The space transforms completely after dark when the streetlights illuminate the square and those windows frame the city like artwork.
