The moment you descend the stone steps into The Crypt, you'll understand why couples and event planners have fallen for this 600-year-old medieval space beneath St. Etheldreda's Church. Those vaulted ceilings and ancient stone walls aren't just architectural features, they create an atmosphere that transforms ordinary gatherings into something rather special. We've hosted everything from intimate wedding ceremonies to grand corporate banquets down here, and the space adapts beautifully to each occasion. For seated dinners, we can accommodate up to 124 guests around round tables dressed in crisp white linens, while standing receptions work wonderfully for up to 200 people. The stained glass windows cast gorgeous coloured light across the room during daytime events, while evening celebrations take on a completely different character with fairy lights wrapped around our stone pillars and candelabras flickering on each table. That grand piano in the corner? It's seen countless first dances and impromptu performances over the years. Some clients bring their own musicians, others simply connect their playlist to our sound system. The acoustics, thanks to those medieval vaults, are surprisingly good. We know the practicalities matter too. Despite the historic setting, we've installed proper climate control, reliable AV equipment for speeches and presentations, and Wi-Fi that actually works underground. Our kitchen team prepares everything fresh, drawing from the same French menu that's made Bleeding Heart Restaurant a Farringdon institution for 36 years. Getting here is straightforward, with both Chancery Lane and Farringdon stations nearby, though finding us down our cobblestone alley does add a sense of discovery.
