The copper-topped bar catches the light from vintage brass fixtures as you descend into our basement sanctuary, where we've been perfecting cocktails since becoming the world's best restaurant cocktail bar. Twice, actually. The Spitalfields Bar sits beneath our original Hawksmoor restaurant, just two minutes from Shoreditch High Street station, with its own private entrance that keeps your celebration completely separate from the dining room above. Dark wood panels and leather booths line the underground arches, creating pockets of conversation space while maintaining the energy of a proper East London bar. We built this room around drinking and talking, with space for 70 guests standing or 40 seated at tables. The mirror-backed shelves behind the bar reflect warm amber lighting across bottles of forgotten British spirits and seasonal ingredients our bartenders use for their latest experiments. For corporate gatherings, we can set up our 65-inch portable screen for presentations without losing the atmosphere that makes people actually want to stay after the formal bit ends. Birthday parties tend to start with cocktails and canapés at the bar before moving to the booths for our signature dishes. The acoustics down here handle both background jazz and proper party music equally well, with our licence running until 11:30pm. The basement location gives everything a slightly secretive feel, particularly when you're sipping cocktails from vintage glassware while your group takes over the entire space. We serve the same carefully sourced ingredients as upstairs, whether that's sustainable British seafood in our small plates or grass-fed beef in our sliders. Our bartenders know these farmers and fishermen by name, just as they know exactly which pre-war cocktail recipe works best with Somerset apple brandy.
