The Back Room at Strange Brew brings the underground art scene above ground, with black walls that have hosted everything from experimental theatre to DJ rehearsals. We've stripped this windowless space down to its essentials, creating what local artists call Bristol's most responsive blank canvas. The low ceiling creates an intensity that works brilliantly for immersive experiences, while our D&B Audiotechnik PA system delivers sound that performers actually trust. Walking into the Back Room feels like discovering a secret venue within a venue. The eclectic artwork covering the walls changes regularly, though you can bring your own pieces or projections to completely transform the aesthetic. We've sound-treated the space properly, so whether you're running a poetry slam or testing out new electronic tracks, the acoustics respond exactly as they should. The stage might be compact, but we've seen it handle five-piece bands and solo performance artists with equal success. Our lighting system moves from gallery-bright to club-dark depending on what you need, controlled from a simple panel that doesn't require a technical degree to operate. The projector throws crisp images onto our screen, though many groups prefer using the walls themselves as projection surfaces for more experimental visuals. Configure the space for 200 people standing at a product launch, arrange 75 seats theatre-style for presentations, set up 50 cabaret tables for comedy nights, or create a classroom layout for workshops. The Back Room works beautifully as overflow space when you've booked our main area, but it stands alone for events that thrive in close quarters. We provide full bar service from our main bar, and while we handle the drinks, you're free to bring in any Bristol caterer who catches your fancy. The space has become a testing ground for new event concepts, where the lack of windows becomes an asset rather than a limitation.
