The Great Room's soaring glass dome catches morning light as it filters across James Barry's monumental paintings, creating an atmosphere that transforms throughout the day. We've watched countless guests pause mid-conversation, drawn upward by Barry's "Progress of Human Knowledge and Culture" - six vast canvases that have presided over gatherings here since 1798. Corporate groups often choose this space for conferences and award ceremonies, taking advantage of our built-in audiovisual setup. Eight free-standing speakers deliver crystal-clear sound to every corner, while our permanent stage and live streaming capabilities mean presentations reach both in-room and remote audiences effortlessly. The room comfortably seats 180 theatre-style or 130 for formal dinners, though we've seen up to 200 guests mingling during cocktail receptions. Wedding parties particularly love how the space transforms as daylight fades. Our lighting design highlights the architectural details Adam originally crafted, while the air conditioning keeps everyone comfortable even during summer celebrations. The paintings themselves become part of the story - we've photographed countless first dances beneath Barry's depiction of Elysium. Product launches and fashion shows work brilliantly here too. The room's acoustics, refined over centuries of debates and discussions, now serve modern sound requirements perfectly. Our technical team regularly supports full video recording, ensuring every moment gets captured professionally. Practical details matter just as much as the grandeur. Located on our first floor, The Great Room connects naturally with the Benjamin Franklin Room below, where many clients set up catering or welcome drinks. Our in-house Company of Cooks team serves everything directly from our kitchens, working with sustainably sourced ingredients to match your event's scale.
