The South Lawn transforms into something special when we erect our marquee between the mature plane trees and our Victorian red-brick walls. This generous outdoor space accommodates up to 300 guests for receptions, making it one of our most versatile party venues. Inside the marquee, star-patterned fabric drapes from the ceiling while ornate lanterns cast warm pools of light across the white-draped tables below. We've hosted everything from summer weddings to corporate celebrations here, and the combination of our historic building as backdrop with the natural garden setting creates an atmosphere you won't find elsewhere in East London. The lawn spreads alongside our museum's original 1872 facade, where the red brickwork provides a striking contrast to the surrounding greenery. During summer months, we see families celebrating milestone birthdays, companies hosting product launches, and couples exchanging vows beneath the canvas. The marquee structure means your event runs smoothly regardless of weather, while still maintaining that outdoor garden party feel your guests will remember. Our events team arranges the space to suit your celebration, whether that's long banquet tables for formal dinners or clusters of rounds for more relaxed mingling. The crisp white table linens showcase colourful celebration cakes beautifully, and we've seen some spectacular displays over the years.
