Pink velvet booths and cherry blossom-covered birdcages transform our Friar Street bar into Reading's most photographed party space. We've taken over what used to be a Yates on this buzzing street, completely reimagining it with botanical wallpaper, hanging plants, and those signature birdcage seats everyone wants for their group photos. Our ground floor opens up to accommodate 538 standing guests when we clear the tables, though most nights you'll find 208 people seated comfortably among the greenery and soft lighting. The real gem sits upstairs - our private first-floor room with its own terrace holds 102 seated or 150 standing, giving party planners their own dedicated space away from the main bar crowds. We run cocktail masterclasses where groups learn to shake and muddle their way through our menu, and our bottomless brunches have become something of a local institution. The kitchen serves everything from loaded nachos to plant-based burgers, with separate menus for vegan, vegetarian and non-gluten diets. Dogs join us Sunday through Friday (Saturdays depend on how busy we are), and we've got ramps throughout for wheelchair access. Friday nights here mean Flamingo Friday - live music fills the space while we serve special drink packages. Corporate teams book our upstairs room for presentations during the day, then stay for cocktails on the terrace afterwards. Birthday groups love the birdcage booths, hen parties go straight for the cocktail masterclasses, and our afternoon teas draw in celebration gatherings most weekends. We're right in Reading's party district on Friar Street, with Wi-Fi throughout, a heated smoking area, and that outside space everyone gravitates toward when the weather cooperates.
