Über The Amadeus
Sunlight streams through the magnificent stained-glass windows of The Amadeus every morning, illuminating the rich wood paneling and Victorian details that make our former Welsh Presbyterian chapel such a breathtaking wedding venue. Here at 50 Shirland Road in Maida Vale, we've carefully preserved the building's architectural heritage while creating flexible spaces that bring wedding dreams to life. Our Upper Hall serves as the main ceremony and reception space, where up to 180 guests can dine beneath the original pipe organ and ornate wood-paneled balcony. For standing receptions, we can accommodate 200 people comfortably. The acoustics in this space are remarkable – wedding vows carry beautifully without amplification, though we do provide PA systems for speeches and music. Natural light pours through those historic windows during daytime ceremonies, creating an ethereal atmosphere that photographers absolutely love. Downstairs, our Lower Hall offers a completely different character with its brick-vaulted ceiling and polished hardwood floors. This more intimate space works wonderfully for pre-ceremony gatherings or evening drinks receptions, comfortably hosting up to 100 guests. Many couples use it as a cocktail area while we reset the Upper Hall from ceremony to dinner configuration. We operate as a dry hire venue, which means you have complete control over your catering choices. You can select from our recommended local caterers who know the space well, or bring in your own team (a facility fee applies for external caterers). There's no corkage fee, so you're free to supply your own wine and champagne. Our free Wi-Fi keeps everyone connected, and we're conveniently reached from Warwick Avenue, Royal Oak, and Maida Vale stations. Beyond weddings, we regularly host corporate functions, rehearsals, workshops, and private parties, but there's something particularly special about witnessing couples exchange vows in our historic halls.
