Books tower around you on all seven floors of The London Library, creating an extraordinary backdrop for parties that your guests won't forget. We've been opening our doors for private events since our founding in 1841, and there's something magical about celebrating among over a million volumes spread across 17 miles of shelves. Our Reading Room transforms into a spectacular party space where 200 guests can mingle beneath double-height book-lined walls and ornate ironwork balustrades. The windows overlook St James's Square, and when evening light filters through, the whole room takes on a golden glow. For seated dinners, we accommodate 100 guests, or we can arrange theatre-style seating for the same number if you're planning presentations alongside your celebrations. The Issue Hall serves as our grand entrance and works brilliantly for welcome drinks or registration areas. Up to 100 guests can gather here before moving into other spaces. Our Study creates a more intimate atmosphere for groups of 30, while the Art Room showcases pieces from our collection and holds 50 for drinks receptions. Behind our unassuming façade off St James's Square, seven interlocking buildings create a maze of literary wonder. We open for private hire Wednesday through Saturday evenings after 5:30pm, and all day Sunday. Our approved suppliers handle catering, production, and florals to the standards our historic spaces deserve. Just minutes from both Piccadilly Circus and Green Park stations, guests find us easily accessible. We've hosted everything from corporate celebrations and book launches to award ceremonies and private parties. Each event feels different here – the books seem to absorb sound, creating perfect acoustics for both lively celebrations and speeches.
