Über The Shirker's Rest
The upstairs room at The Shirker's Rest offers something different from your typical meeting space. Since we opened our micropub on Lewisham Way in June 2022, we've discovered that our first-floor room works brilliantly for both work meetings and social gatherings. Six local beer enthusiasts transformed this former solicitor's office, and we kept the upstairs space flexible enough to suit various needs. Our light-filled room accommodates 30 people theatre-style or 20 around tables. We'll arrange the furniture however works best for your group - whether that's separate tables for workshop sessions or one long boardroom setup. The AV facilities mean you can plug in your laptop for presentations, and our ceiling speakers connect via Bluetooth when you need background music or want to amplify audio. Here's what makes us particularly popular with teams: we open the micropub downstairs at 3pm, so you can start with morning strategy sessions and naturally transition into post-work drinks. Your group has exclusive use of the upstairs space until 5pm on day hires, after which other customers might join if there's room. For private parties, having our bar directly downstairs means no one has to worry about drink supplies. We rotate through cask and keg beers from independent breweries (mostly local), including our own Shirker's Best bitter. Pints start at £3.80, and we stock what some call an excessive crisp collection - including SLABS, which are basically a meal in themselves. Yard Sale Pizza delivers free to the pub from 4pm, making catering straightforward. The room regularly hosts art exhibitions, book clubs, and open mic nights when we're not running private events. Dogs are welcome throughout the building, and our small outdoor area (we call it the A20 Lounge) provides a breather between sessions.
