About The Empty Space
Black walls and bright stage lights greet you at The Empty Space, our 155-seat theatre tucked inside a converted industrial unit on Kansas Avenue in Salford's Media City. Since we opened our doors in December 2016, we've become home to everything from comedy nights and musicals to wedding receptions and corporate workshops. Our main theatre features collapsible seating that completely transforms the space – one night it's rows of seats for a play, the next it's an open floor for a party or dance workshop. Backstage, performers find full-length mirrors for last-minute costume checks, while upstairs our meeting room doubles as a rehearsal space or breakout area for events. We've installed professional lighting and sound systems that work just as well for a local band's showcase as they do for a theatrical production. Eats, our on-site café, keeps everyone fueled with affordable vegan and vegetarian options. Party hosts often work with them to create custom menus for their events. We've made sure everyone can enjoy our space – there's a ramped entrance at the front, accessible toilets, and all our main seating is on the ground floor. The building itself tells a story. What was once an industrial unit now hosts GM Fringe performances, community gatherings, training workshops, and private celebrations. We're right next to Broadway Metrolink station, and there's free parking for those driving in. Whether you're planning a birthday party, organising a comedy night, or looking for somewhere different for your wedding reception, our black-box design means we can adapt to what you need. The space works equally well for intimate gatherings or larger celebrations, with our team helping you configure everything from seating arrangements to lighting moods.
