The Dukes Room carries the quiet authority of its former life as our library, where leather-bound books once lined the dark wood panels that still wrap three walls today. Natural daylight pours through the bay windows on the fourth wall, catching the grain of the polished wood and creating an atmosphere that feels both scholarly and surprisingly warm. At 15.60 metres long and 4.48 metres wide, with impressive 4.80-metre high ceilings, the space breathes differently from typical meeting rooms. We've arranged it countless ways over the years: theatre style for 80 delegates when presenting quarterly results, boardroom format for 20 when strategy sessions run late into the afternoon, or U-shape configuration when workshop discussions need that collaborative energy. The room adapts just as easily to classroom layouts for 30 during training days or cabaret style for 36 when teams need to work in smaller groups. Those original wood panels do more than look distinguished; they create exceptional acoustics that make presentations clear without echo. The bay windows face our gardens, so coffee breaks naturally extend as people gravitate toward the view. We've kept the heritage features intact while ensuring full accessibility throughout, because everyone should experience this kind of setting. For evening events, the room transforms beautifully. We've hosted drinks receptions for 80, where the wood paneling glows under subtle lighting, and formal banquets for 50 where the historic atmosphere adds gravitas to award ceremonies. The space holds a wedding ceremony licence too, though for meetings we focus on providing the technology and setup that modern business demands. Transport links place us within easy reach, and many groups appreciate being able to step out to the seafront between sessions.
