Standing 15 meters below ground in our tunnel shaft feels like stepping into another world—one where Victorian engineering meets modern celebration. We're The Brunel Museum in Rotherhithe, and our space has quite the story to tell. This Grade II* listed tunnel shaft was once the Grand Entrance Hall to the Thames Tunnel, the world's first tunnel built under a navigable river. We've transformed this remarkable space into something special for parties and events. The cylindrical brick walls create incredible acoustics, while our DMX lighting system lets you paint the space in any color you imagine. Picture your guests descending into this industrial cathedral, drinks in hand, as colored lights dance across 200-year-old brickwork. We can accommodate up to 120 standing guests comfortably. Our venue comes equipped with everything you need for a proper celebration—a high-power projector for presentations or visuals, and even a small grand piano tucked into the space for live music. The tunnel shaft has hosted everything from wedding receptions to corporate parties, fashion shows to film shoots. The circular design means everyone feels part of the action, no matter where they're standing. Above ground, our rooftop garden—the Midnight Apothecary—offers a complete change of scene. Here we serve botanical cocktails made with ingredients grown right in the garden. It's the perfect spot for guests to catch their breath between dancing below. When you book with us, you get exclusive use of the tunnel shaft when the museum is closed to the public. Our Grade II listed engine house provides additional space for catering setup or quieter conversations.
