The brass lanterns cast their warm glow across lacquered surfaces as we prepare Shanghai Noir for another evening of Indo-Chinese indulgence. Our home in the Old Westminster Fire Station, just steps from St James's Park tube station, has been transformed into a tribute to 1930s Shanghai—when the city earned its reputation as "The Paris of the East." We've dressed every corner in Art Deco splendor, from the silk-draped walls to the ivory inlays that catch the light just so. Executive Chef Amit Bagyal leads our kitchen team in creating dishes that marry Indian spices with Chinese technique—think black bean scallops that melt on your tongue, beef with wild mushroom bao that arrives steaming at your table, and our infamous Bhot Jolakhiya Chilli Chicken, prepared with the world's hottest chili for those brave enough to try it. Our bartenders shake up stories in glasses—the Firecracker reimagines the classic negroni as a highball, while The Shanghai brings tropical notes to a margarita base with aromatic twists we've perfected over countless evenings. For private celebrations, we open our intimate spaces: The Opium Saloon welcomes 16 guests behind velvet curtains, The Den accommodates 38 for larger gatherings, The Snake Charmer seats 24 in mysterious comfort, and our Chef's Table brings nine lucky diners directly into the culinary action. Each room tells its own story through original architectural details and carefully chosen furnishings. We welcome guests Monday through Friday from 5 pm until midnight, with Saturday lunch service from noon to 2:45 pm before reopening for dinner at 5 pm. Please note: Shanghai Noir is temporarily closed for essential repairs and maintenance as of January 10, 2025. We'll announce our reopening date soon—our lanterns will glow again.
