The rich red carpet and polished wooden table immediately tell you this is somewhere special. Our Private Dining room has welcomed everyone from Yorkshire business leaders to visiting dignitaries since our Georgian townhouse first opened its doors. After the 2018 restoration brought back the original lustre of the plasterwork ceiling, we think this might be the finest dining room in York. Natural light pours through the tall arched windows during lunch service, while our period wall sconces create the perfect atmosphere for evening dinners. The long dining table seats up to 24 guests comfortably, though we can accommodate up to 80 for larger seated events when configured differently. Those red-upholstered chairs? They're as comfortable as they look, important when your dinner stretches into fascinating conversation long after dessert. The marble fireplace anchors the room, flanked by glass cases displaying ceremonial artifacts from York's civic history. Your guests often find themselves drawn to these pieces between courses, sparking discussions about the centuries of gatherings these walls have witnessed. The carefully restored Georgian features create an atmosphere you simply won't find in modern function spaces. We operate on a venue-hire basis, meaning you select from our approved caterers to create your perfect menu. Whether you're planning a board dinner, celebrating a milestone birthday, or hosting important clients, the flexibility works in your favour. The room connects easily to our other spaces if you'd like pre-dinner drinks in the Drawing Room or to use the State Room for larger occasions. York's city centre location puts us within walking distance of the train station and major hotels. Our ground floor access and lift mean everyone can join your celebration.
