The Old Council Chamber tells its own story through centuries-old oak panels and stone arches that have witnessed Bristol's most important decisions. We've preserved this historic council chamber exactly as it was, with its distinctive curved U-shaped seating arrangement that naturally draws 60 guests into meaningful conversation. Walking into the chamber, you'll notice how the original oak panelling catches the light from our tall leaded windows, creating different moods throughout the day. The portraits and coats of arms on our walls aren't just decoration, they're part of Bristol's civic history, giving your gathering a sense of gravitas that modern venues simply can't replicate. We've carefully integrated contemporary technology without disturbing the room's character. Our projector, visualiser and PA system are all positioned to work seamlessly with the historic architecture. The lectern stands where council leaders once addressed the chamber, now equipped with microphones and computer connections for your presentations. Air conditioning keeps everyone comfortable year-round, something our Victorian predecessors would have envied during long summer debates. The curved seating arrangement works particularly well for panel discussions and interactive workshops. We find it creates a more democratic feel than traditional theatre-style layouts, encouraging participation and dialogue among your guests. The acoustics, shaped by the stone arches overhead, carry voices beautifully throughout the space.
