Six centuries of candlelit celebrations have graced these stone walls beneath Holborn's streets. The Crypt - Entire Venue at St. Etheldreda's transforms from daytime meeting space to evening party venue with remarkable ease, its medieval architecture creating an atmosphere that modern venues simply cannot replicate. Round tables dressed in crisp linens fill the space, each crowned with candelabras and fresh florals that catch the warm glow from our carefully positioned lighting. We can arrange the room for 124 seated guests at banquet tables, or clear the floor for up to 200 standing guests when dancing takes priority. The vaulted ceilings and stone walls create surprisingly excellent acoustics, whether you're delivering heartfelt speeches or dancing to live music from the grand piano tucked into the corner. Those stained glass windows you'll notice aren't just decorative, they filter coloured light across the medieval stonework throughout the day. Exposed wooden beams overhead add warmth to the space, while our modern lighting system lets us adjust the ambiance from bright and professional to intimate and romantic as your event unfolds. The adjacent Cloister Garden provides a delightful contrast to the underground setting. We often see guests emerge from the Crypt for welcome drinks in this hidden courtyard, which seats up to 40 people comfortably. It works brilliantly as a breather space during larger receptions or as an intimate gathering spot before dinner service begins. Our kitchen handles everything from formal three-course dinners to flowing canapés, while the licensed bar keeps drinks flowing until midnight. Full AV capabilities mean presentations run smoothly, and yes, the Wi-Fi works perfectly through these ancient walls.
