When Queen Victoria opened these doors in 1845, she probably didn't imagine wedding guests toasting beneath the Minstrels' Gallery or corporate teams brainstorming where barristers once dined. Yet here we are, transforming the Great Hall & Bench Rooms daily from working legal chambers into one of Holborn's most remarkable party spaces. The moment your guests step into the Great Hall, conversations pause. It's the scale that hits first, with that intricately worked oak ceiling soaring overhead, then the details draw you in: heraldic panels marching along the walls, portraits of legal luminaries keeping watch, and that magnificent fresco commanding attention. We can accommodate 300 for a seated dinner here, or pack in 450 for a standing reception when the dancing starts. Natural light pours through the stained-glass windows during afternoon events, casting colours across the polished wooden floors. Come evening, the lighting transforms the space into something more intimate, despite its grandeur. Those rich red furnishings add warmth against the oak panelling, creating an atmosphere that works equally well for black-tie galas or relaxed celebration parties. The Bench Rooms connect seamlessly, giving you flexibility for different event phases. We often see clients use them for pre-dinner drinks or as a quieter retreat space later in the evening. Step out onto our east-facing terrace and you'll find private gardens spread before you, perfect for arrival drinks or catching some air between dance floor sessions.
