Fire crackles from our custom-built grill as another plate of charred octopus heads to table seven. We're Caia, tucked on Golborne Road in Notting Hill, where the smell of wood smoke mingles with the warm buzz of conversation and whatever vinyl our DJ's spinning tonight. Our ground floor wraps around the open kitchen, so you can watch chef Jessica Donovan and her team work the flames while you sip something interesting from Beth Brickenden's wine list. Those light pink walls and velvet stools might catch your eye first, but it's the energy that keeps people coming back - especially when we're packed on a Friday night and someone's discovered a new favorite bottle from one of Beth's emerging producers. Downstairs in the Green Room, that's where things get properly musical. We've kitted it out with a serious hi-fi system and handed the keys to Stranger Than Paradise Records, who keep our vinyl collection stocked with everything from rare jazz pressings to fresh disco finds. Some nights we have DJs, other times live sets - depends who's in town and what mood we're in. For parties, we've got options. The Wine Room fits twelve around one table, tucked away just enough for those birthday dinners where you want to hear each other talk. The Green Room handles bigger celebrations when you need space to move. Both work brilliantly for different kinds of nights. Our menu changes with what's good right now, but it's always built around that grill - dishes meant for passing around, arguing over who gets the last bite. Global flavors, seasonal ingredients, all designed to make sense with whatever you're drinking. Works just as well for romantic dinners as it does for those long group celebrations that end with everyone downstairs dancing.
