The red curtain rises on over 120 years of performance history here at Hackney Empire. Our Grade II* listed Edwardian music hall has been hosting everything from vaudeville acts to contemporary comedy since 1901, and we're thrilled to open our doors for your meetings and celebrations. Our Main Hall remains the crown jewel of the building - an ornate auditorium where 1,268 guests can gather for seated events, or up to 1,631 for standing receptions. The 214-square-meter stage and 60-seat orchestra pit have welcomed countless performers, and now they're ready for your conference keynote, company celebration, or theatrical production. We've hosted comedy nights, music concerts, theatre performances, pantomimes, cabaret shows, musicals, opera, book launches, talks, spoken word events, dance performances, family shows, community gatherings, podcast recordings, conferences, and film shoots - each event bringing its own energy to our historic space. For more intimate gatherings, our Harold Pinter and Empire 2 rooms offer bright, adaptable spaces perfect for meetings, workshops, or smaller parties. These rooms work beautifully as rehearsal spaces, banquet venues, or classroom-style setups for presentations and lectures. We've ensured everyone can enjoy our spaces comfortably. Step-free entrances lead to lift access throughout the building, with wheelchair spaces in the auditorium and accessible toilets on every level. You'll find us in the heart of Hackney, just a five-minute walk from Hackney Central Overground station. The building itself tells stories through its incredible architectural details - from the ornate plasterwork to that iconic red curtain that has signaled the start of countless memorable evenings.
