Standing beneath the arched entrance to Washhouse Court, you're immediately transported into a pocket of London that time forgot. This semi-private outdoor courtyard at The Charterhouse has witnessed over 700 years of city life, from monks washing their habits to Tudor nobles crossing between buildings. Today, we welcome up to 150 guests for standing receptions in this extraordinary space. The original cobblestones beneath your feet have been worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, creating natural pathways that guide guests through the courtyard. Around you, weathered monastic stone walls meet the distinctive red and black Tudor brickwork that was added during the mansion era. These contrasting architectural styles create intimate corners and conversation spots throughout the space, perfect for guests to gather with drinks in hand. We've preserved every historical detail while ensuring modern comfort. The courtyard is fully wheelchair accessible, with level access throughout and accessible facilities nearby. For those driving, paid parking is available in the surrounding streets. Just a short walk from both Barbican and Farringdon stations, your guests will find us easily tucked between Smithfield Market and the Barbican Centre. The open-air setting works beautifully for summer parties and evening receptions when the ancient walls are illuminated against the darkening sky. You're welcome to bring in your own caterers who know exactly how to execute your vision, arrange your own bar service with BYO alcohol options, and set up whatever music or entertainment suits your celebration.
