Behind the Tudor façade of City Tavern, we've been serving Newcastle since 1923. Our comprehensive restoration in 2014 brought together the best of our historic character with modern comforts, creating spaces that work brilliantly for both meetings and celebrations. We can accommodate groups from 12 to 300 guests across our various areas. For smaller meetings or intimate parties, Rupert's Sneaky Den offers something truly different - it's the world's smallest bar and perfect for private gatherings where you want something memorable. Our larger spaces flow naturally from one to another, giving you flexibility whether you're hosting a corporate presentation or a birthday celebration. Our home-cooked menu runs from bar snacks through to full Sunday lunches, all prepared with local produce. The bar features our own City Tavern Ale and Bar Hound Ale, plus a carefully chosen selection of other cask ales and beverages. We know good food and drink make meetings more productive and parties more enjoyable. Cinema Paradiso, our outdoor cinema area, adds another dimension to events. We show films twice daily, but it's also available as an unusual backdrop for drinks receptions or team gatherings when the weather cooperates. Inside, we welcome well-behaved dogs and children, maintaining that proper pub atmosphere while ensuring everyone feels comfortable. Our central Newcastle location means your guests can reach us easily, whether arriving by metro, bus or car. We handle weddings, corporate functions, birthday parties, and everything in between. Each event gets the same attention - we work with you to arrange the space, catering and bar service to match what you need. The combination of our historic building and practical facilities creates an environment where business discussions flow as smoothly as social celebrations.
