Step through the heavy oak doors of The Old Library and you're immediately transported into what was once Lord North's private parlour. We've carefully preserved this remarkable space, where portraits of former Archbishops and Bishops gaze down from walls that still bear faint scars from the Blitz, each mark telling its own story of London's resilience. The room stretches 15.4 meters by 6.5 meters, with afternoon sun pouring through original leaded windows that frame views across our historic courtyard. Those sturdy wooden beams overhead have watched this space transform from auditor's hall to school dining room, and now into one of our most versatile event spaces. The polished wooden floors catch the warm lighting beautifully, whether we're setting up for an elegant dinner party of 50 or arranging the space for drinks receptions hosting up to 100 guests. We've thoughtfully integrated modern technology without disturbing the room's character. The projector, flatscreen TV and PA system are all discretely positioned, while reliable Wi-Fi keeps everyone connected. Our external catering partners know the space well and work seamlessly around the historic features, while you're welcome to bring your own drinks and music to create exactly the atmosphere you're after. The combination of natural daylight and atmospheric evening lighting means The Old Library adapts effortlessly throughout the day. We regularly host everything from milestone birthday celebrations to corporate gatherings here, with the historic portraits and architectural details providing endless conversation starters. The space works particularly well for cocktail parties, where guests naturally flow between the different areas, discovering architectural details as they mingle. Access couldn't be simpler, with both Barbican and Farringdon stations just a short walk away.
