The candlelight dances across centuries-old brick as we descend into The Cellars, where over 8,000 bottles line the walls of what was once a 17th-century wine vault. This extraordinary space beneath The Stafford Hotel has witnessed everything from wartime shelter meetings to modern-day celebrations, its arched ceilings creating an intimate cocoon that feels worlds away from the London streets above. We've arranged the space to showcase its natural drama, with a long dining table stretching beneath the curved brick arches, surrounded by plush blue-upholstered chairs that invite guests to settle in for long, memorable evenings. The chandeliers we've hung cast pools of warm light across the table settings, while candles flicker against the ancient walls, creating an atmosphere that photographs never quite capture. The Cellars adapt beautifully to different occasions. For formal dinners, we can seat 32 guests in an oval configuration or 24 at round tables, each arrangement allowing easy conversation while maintaining the room's intimate feel. When hosting wine tastings or cocktail receptions, the space opens up to welcome 75 guests, who invariably find themselves drawn to examine the remarkable collection of wines, cognacs and whiskies that surround them. Our sommeliers particularly enjoy leading tastings here, where the carefully controlled temperature and lighting enhance every vintage. The acoustic properties of the brick create a natural hush that makes this space particularly suited to confidential business dinners or milestone celebrations where every word matters. Just five minutes' walk from Piccadilly and Buckingham Palace Gardens, accessing this hidden gem couldn't be simpler.
