You descend the stone steps into our 380-year-old Wine Cellars, where centuries of celebrations have soaked into the brick archways above. These vaulted chambers beneath The Stafford Hotel hold more than 8,000 bottles of rare wines, cognacs and whiskies, their labels catching the candlelight that flickers across long oak tables. We've preserved the original 17th-century architecture, from the curved brick ceilings to the aged stone walls that keep the temperature naturally cool. Historic wine corking machinery and wartime relics rest in alcoves between the bottle racks, each piece telling its own story of the cellars' past lives. The warm amber lighting we've installed works with the candles to create pockets of intimacy throughout the space, while still allowing guests to admire the impressive collection surrounding them. For seated dinners, we arrange banquet tables that accommodate up to 44 guests beneath the arches, with fine china and crystal glasses reflecting the gentle light. Board meetings take on new character here, with space for 32 around our polished tables. Standing receptions flow naturally through the cellar bays, where up to 70 guests can move between wine displays while our sommelier shares stories behind particular vintages. The acoustics of the brick vaults carry conversation beautifully, whether you're hosting a wine tasting, celebrating a milestone birthday, or gathering colleagues for a presentation that benefits from our theatre-style setup for 40. We've hosted everything from corporate wine education sessions to intimate wedding dinners where couples exchange toasts surrounded by bottles that predate their grandparents. Our location between St James's and Mayfair puts you within five minutes of both Piccadilly's transport connections and Buckingham Palace gardens, making arrival simple for guests coming from across London or beyond.
