The Howard Assembly Room's barrel-vaulted ceiling soars above our restored Victorian space, where original stained glass windows cast colored light across up to 300 guests. We've carefully preserved these architectural details while installing everything modern events need - our tiered retractable seating transforms the room from concert hall to open floor plan in minutes. As Opera North's versatile venue, we host everything from jazz quartets to corporate conferences. Our fully staged lighting rig illuminates performers and speakers alike, while the professional projection system handles presentations or visual backdrops with equal clarity. The acoustics, shaped by that magnificent vaulted ceiling, carry sound beautifully whether it's a folk singer's gentle strumming or a keynote speaker's address. Our technical team manages all the equipment details, from microphone placement to lighting cues. The retractable seating means we can configure the space exactly as you need - theatre-style rows for performances, cabaret tables for dinner events, or completely clear for standing receptions. Our bar serves throughout events, and Kino, our in-house restaurant, creates menus ranging from canapés to three-course dinners.
