Party planners often gasp when they see how we transform our Erg Gym from its daily life as a training space into something quite magical. The rowing machines disappear, and suddenly you have this wonderful room filled with natural light streaming through the windows, bouncing off the wooden floors and exposed beams that give the space such character. We've kept all the rowing memorabilia on the walls - the trophies, photographs of crews past and present - which guests find fascinating between conversations. When we string up the colourful paper lanterns and fairy lights, the whole atmosphere shifts. The rustic charm of the original features works beautifully with whatever party theme you have in mind. The space itself is remarkably flexible. We can seat 120 for a banquet-style celebration, or if you prefer mingling and dancing, we'll configure it for 140 guests reception-style. Many hosts love that we can open up the adjoining Club Room, creating one flowing space that gives everyone room to move between dinner, the bar, and those irresistible riverside balconies. Being right on Eel Pie Island means your guests get those Thames views as part of the experience. The two balconies become natural spots where people gravitate with their drinks, especially during summer parties when the evening light on the water creates such a lovely backdrop. The practical bits matter too - getting here via public transport is straightforward, which your guests always appreciate. Our lift ensures everyone can join the celebration comfortably. As with all our spaces, it's a dry hire, so you choose your own caterers and suppliers who know exactly how to work with the historic features and riverside setting. Birthday parties work brilliantly here, as do engagement celebrations, corporate events, and any gathering where you want somewhere with genuine character rather than just another function room.
