About Old English Inns - Bear Hotel - Hungerford
We've been welcoming guests to The Bear Hotel since the 13th century, making us one of England's oldest inns. Our building sits right on the banks of the River Dun in Hungerford, where the borders of Berkshire, Wiltshire and Hampshire meet in the North Wessex Downs. For weddings and celebrations, our Riverside Suite has become the heart of many special occasions. The space holds up to 80 guests and opens onto its own private terrace overlooking the river. We've kept the private bar stocked for countless toasts and speeches over the years. The natural light flooding through the windows creates a warm atmosphere during daytime events, while evening receptions take on a more intimate feel with the river flowing quietly outside. Beyond the Riverside Suite, we maintain 40 en-suite bedrooms throughout the hotel. Several rooms feature balconies where wedding guests often gather for morning coffee while looking out over our gardens. We know pets are part of the family, so we welcome dogs with advance notice - they've been part of many wedding photos taken in our beer garden. Our kitchen serves traditional British pub dishes throughout the day. Wedding parties particularly enjoy our selection of real ales and wines, whether they're gathering for pre-ceremony drinks or winding down after dancing. The restaurant overlooks the same stretch of river as the beer garden, giving every meal a peaceful backdrop. Our location in this market town means wedding photographers love using both our historic features and the surrounding countryside. The original 13th-century elements blend with our modern updates throughout the building, from the Riverside Suite's contemporary fixtures to the traditional beams in our main areas.
