About Old English Inns - Bell Inn
At The Bell Hotel, we've been welcoming guests through our doors since the 15th century, when we first served as a coaching inn for weary travelers. Today, our Tudor wall paintings still grace the walls, and the original timber beams stretch across ceilings throughout the building – these aren't replicas, they're the real thing that's been here for over 500 years. Our 46 en-suite bedrooms range from cozy singles to spacious rooms with four-poster beds that make you feel like you've stepped back in time (with the comfort of modern heating and flat-screen TVs, of course). We've equipped each room with free Wi-Fi and tea and coffee-making facilities because we know the little things matter after a long day. The King James Restaurant occupies what was once the main coaching hall, where we now serve traditional British dishes alongside seasonal specialties our chef creates based on what's fresh from local suppliers. Our bar still feels like the tavern it once was – we pour real ales here and keep a selection of snacks available throughout the day. If you're bringing your dog, they're welcome too; we keep water bowls ready and treats behind the bar. For meetings and weddings, our function rooms can accommodate up to 100 guests. The exposed beams and period features create an atmosphere you won't find in modern conference centers, while our staff handle all the practical details. We're right in the center of Thetford, so your guests can easily walk to us from the train station, and Thetford Forest is just a short drive away when you need a break. The Dad's Army Museum is practically next door – many visitors combine their stay with us with a visit there.
