Chef Richard Corrigan brings his celebrated British-Irish cuisine to the fourth floor of the National Portrait Gallery, where The Portrait Restaurant commands some of London's most spectacular views. From our dining room, you'll watch the sun set behind Nelson's Column while Trafalgar Square buzzes with life below, the Houses of Parliament stretching out in the distance. We've created three distinct spaces for celebrations here. The main restaurant seats up to 80 guests amid Brady Williams' thoughtful design—natural timber meets hand-embroidered de Gournay linen panels that echo the gallery's architectural details. For standing receptions, we can accommodate 150 guests who'll mingle between the bar and dining areas, cocktails in hand. Those seeking something more intimate often book our kitchen counter, where eight guests can watch our chefs at work while enjoying a special tasting menu. Our head chef changes the menu with the seasons, sourcing ingredients from Richard's network of British and Irish producers. You might find Carlingford oysters alongside dry-aged beef from County Meath, or wild mushrooms foraged from Welsh woodlands. The bar serves classics—proper martinis, old fashioneds—plus our own creations inspired by portraits in the gallery below. Five carefully chosen sculptures punctuate the space, conversation pieces that complement the custom fabric panels depicting the building's neoclassical facade.
