About x+why: Whitechapel
The original Salvation Army Mission Hall has found new purpose as x+why's People's Mission Hall, where we've created five floors of workspace for businesses that want to make a difference. Our Whitechapel building brings together companies focused on positive impact, all working under the same historic roof that once served the local community in a different way. We've kept the building's character intact while making it work for modern businesses. The raw finishes and robust materials from the original structure blend with ergonomic furniture and standing desks throughout our offices. Every desk sits within five metres of a window – something we planned carefully to ensure everyone gets proper daylight during their working day. Plants fill the corridors and common areas, bringing life to every floor alongside the comfortable seating areas where members often bump into each other for impromptu conversations. Our meeting rooms range from intimate spaces for four people up to our largest room that fits 25, while our event space welcomes up to 120 guests. The Garden Room offers a quieter spot for wellness activities, opening onto our landscaped courtyard where people often take their lunch or coffee breaks. We've equipped each floor with full kitchens, installed showers and changing rooms for cyclists and runners, and created secure bike storage for the many members who cycle here from across East London. The building earned a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating thanks to our eco-friendly roofs and LED lighting throughout. We're positioned between Whitechapel and Aldgate Underground stations, making it easy for teams to gather from across London. Whether you need a private office, dedicated desk space, or meeting rooms for client presentations, we've designed everything here to support businesses committed to creating positive change.
