The Crown and Wedgewood rooms occupy a special corner of our first floor, where Georgian windows frame the hotel gardens and York Minster rising beyond. These paired reception spaces have hosted countless wedding celebrations since our Victorian building first opened its doors, and each brings its own character to your special day. Step into the Crown Room and you'll understand why couples choose this space for their vows. Original oak paneling climbs the walls beneath crystal chandeliers, while the restored marble fireplace anchors the room with its intricate carved details. Morning ceremonies here catch extraordinary light through the tall windows, and by evening, those same chandeliers cast a warm glow across up to 80 guests gathered for dinner. The high ceilings create an sense of occasion without overwhelming more intimate gatherings. Through the connecting doors, the Wedgewood Room offers a lighter touch with its Adams-style plasterwork and soft colour palette. We often see couples using both spaces in sequence, moving from ceremony to reception, or keeping one as a bar area while dinner unfolds next door. The ornate ceiling roses and delicate cornicing provide elegant detail without competing with your chosen flowers or decorations. Those garden views remain constant throughout, particularly stunning when the Minster bells ring across the city. Our events team coordinates every detail from these rooms, whether you're planning a traditional wedding breakfast or a more relaxed standing reception. The external refreshment area gives your guests somewhere to gather between ceremony and meal, while our in-house AV technician handles any music or lighting requirements.
