The Dickens Room honours our former president Charles Dickens, who led the Institute in 1869, and today this first-floor space continues to host the thoughtful discussions and presentations he championed. Natural light pours through tall windows dressed in deep red curtains, creating an atmosphere that keeps delegates energised throughout long meeting days. We've arranged the room to accommodate various group sizes and meeting styles. For boardroom discussions, we seat 25 around tables that encourage collaboration. Theatre-style presentations work beautifully for up to 80 attendees, while U-shaped configurations suit 25 participants who need to see both presenter and colleagues. When you prefer round tables for workshops or training sessions, our cabaret layout welcomes 60 guests comfortably. Book-lined walls surround your meeting space, a gentle reminder of the knowledge exchange that has taken place here for over a century. Our projector and screen integrate smoothly with your presentations, while complimentary Wi-Fi keeps everyone connected. The red-cushioned chairs might look traditional, but delegates often comment on how comfortable they remain during full-day sessions. Previous clients consistently praise our attentive staff who understand the rhythm of meetings, knowing precisely when to refresh the coffee or adjust the room temperature. The BMI Coffee Lounge provides catering throughout your event, with many organisers noting the excellent value our in-house team delivers. Accessibility remains a priority, with lift access to the first floor and a portable ramp available for the three steps between the lift and room entrance. A hearing loop can be arranged upon request. Both Snow Hill and New Street stations sit within easy walking distance, making arrival straightforward for Birmingham-based and travelling attendees alike. The Dickens Room suits board meetings, training workshops, seminars and small presentations equally well, each benefiting from the scholarly atmosphere our historic building provides.
