About Christie's Bistro
The moment you step through our doors at Christie's Bistro, you're transported into what was once the Science Library of Owens College - now one of the University of Manchester's most breathtaking event spaces. We've preserved every detail of this neo-Gothic masterpiece, from the original oak paneling that lines our walls to the towering bookshelves filled with academic volumes. The portraits of past Vice-Chancellors still watch over the space, adding gravitas to every celebration held here. During weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, we serve hot drinks, homemade cakes, fresh sandwiches and snacks in our café. The lounge area with its comfortable seating works perfectly for casual meetings or afternoon tea. But when evening falls or the weekend arrives, we transform this historic space into something truly special for private events. Our former library reading rooms now host wedding receptions for up to 300 guests, where the academic atmosphere creates an unforgettable backdrop for toasts and dancing. For more intimate celebrations, we can arrange private dinners for 150, with our classically trained chefs creating menus that showcase local produce and seasonal ingredients. Product launches benefit from our unique setting - imagine unveiling your latest creation surrounded by centuries of knowledge and discovery. We've hosted countless graduations here, where families gather to celebrate academic achievements in the very building that embodies scholarly tradition. Drinks receptions flow naturally through our spaces, with guests discovering quiet corners for conversation or gathering beneath the high ceilings of our main hall.
