About The Barologist
We created The Barologist at 23 Commercial Street in Leith, Edinburgh as something completely different – a pub where the weather comes indoors. Our four distinct areas each represent a different season, complete with weather-related inventions that actually work. In the Winter Room, we've installed a projector screen, planetarium, and yes, a real snow machine that creates indoor snowfall during your celebration. Our kitchen serves fresh food from brunch through late evening, and our bar team includes world-class mixologists who've crafted a cocktail menu that plays with the meteorological theme. We're particularly proud of winning Spirit Pub of the Year and Innovation Pub of the Year at the Greene King Night of Excellence Awards in 2022 – recognition that our unique concept truly resonates with guests. For private parties, we offer a dedicated room that seats up to 35 guests comfortably. The space works brilliantly for everything from birthday celebrations to engagement parties, with the weather effects creating talking points throughout the evening. Imagine toasting with cocktails while thunder rumbles overhead or gentle snow falls around you – these aren't just decorations, they're working installations that transform the atmosphere. Our founder George "Geordie" Armstrong's story weaves throughout the venue, with his inventions and meteorological passion evident in every corner. The menu brings together traditional Scottish ingredients with creative preparations, ensuring your guests enjoy both familiar favorites and unexpected discoveries. Please note that as of May 17, 2025, we've closed our Edinburgh location and are relocating to Harrogate. While we're no longer hosting events in Leith, we wanted to share what made The Barologist special during our wonderful years serving Edinburgh's celebration needs.
