About The Old Hospital
Climb the 52-step spiral staircase and you'll find yourself in one of London's most extraordinary party spaces - The Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret. We're tucked away in the attic of St Thomas' Church, where the original timber beams from the early 1700s still frame what was once the hospital's herb drying room. Our main space is Europe's oldest surviving surgical theatre from 1822, and yes, we do host parties here. The curved wooden stands where medical students once watched operations now create an intimate amphitheatre perfect for birthday celebrations, book launches, and cocktail receptions. The old apothecary cabinets and surgical instruments remain on display, giving your event a backdrop you won't find anywhere else in London. We've hosted everything from jazz concerts that echo beautifully off the ancient timbers to art exhibitions spread throughout the herb garret. Film crews love the authentic atmosphere for screenings, and we regularly transform the space for after-hours experiences.
