About The Old Wellington
Step through our ancient doorway and you're entering Manchester's oldest timber-framed building, where we've been welcoming guests since 1552. The Old Wellington sits right in Shambles Square, just steps from Manchester Cathedral, and we're rather proud of our Grade II listed status – those half-timbered walls have seen nearly five centuries of Manchester life. Our wooden beams overhead and original flagstone floors underfoot create the perfect backdrop for any celebration. We've hosted everything from birthday parties to reunion dinners, and our traditional interior provides that authentic pub atmosphere you just can't replicate elsewhere. The downstairs area opens up nicely for larger groups, and yes, your four-legged friends are welcome to join the party down here too. When the weather cooperates, our spacious beer garden becomes the heart of the action. It's where hen parties spill out for photos, birthday groups gather round the tables, and corporate teams unwind after their events. Speaking of drinks, we pour a rotating selection of cask ales including our own Nicholson's Pale Ale – proper beer for a proper celebration. Our kitchen serves up those hearty British classics that fuel a good party: hand-crafted pies, generous portions, and our famous Sunday roasts if you're planning a weekend gathering. We've got free Wi-Fi throughout, making it easy for guests to share their night on social media or for corporate groups who need to stay connected.
