About Theatre Royal
Red velvet seats curve around our magnificent Victorian auditorium in perfect rows, each offering clear sightlines to the stage where Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet call home. We've been welcoming audiences to Theatre Royal Glasgow since 1867, making us the city's oldest theatre, and that sense of history fills every corner of our building at 282 Hope Street. Our venue serves multiple purposes throughout the year. While opera and ballet form the heart of our programme, we also present comedy shows, dramatic productions, musicals and children's theatre. The Victorian auditorium maintains its original architectural details, creating an atmosphere that transforms any gathering into something special. For meetings and parties, our contemporary foyer spaces provide a striking contrast to the historic auditorium, offering flexibility for different event formats. We've equipped the theatre with modern conveniences while preserving its character. The Ambassador Lounge provides a VIP experience for those seeking something extra, while our multiple bars throughout the building serve drinks and snacks during intervals and events. Our Vanilla Black café offers coffee and light refreshments, plus complimentary Wi-Fi for those who need to stay connected. Getting here couldn't be easier - we're right in the city centre with subway stations and bus stops nearby. We've installed lifts to all floors and provide wheelchair spaces across every seating level, ensuring everyone can enjoy what we offer. Accessible toilets on each floor mean comfort for all our guests. Whether you're planning a corporate meeting in our function spaces or celebrating with a private party against the backdrop of our Victorian splendour, our team works with you to make the most of these versatile spaces. The combination of heritage architecture and contemporary facilities creates possibilities for events of many different sizes and styles.
