The Garden Cellar sits beneath our original market vaults, where candlelight flickers against centuries-old stonework. We've arranged a single polished wooden table down the centre of this underground chamber, surrounded by high-backed chairs that encourage long conversations over dinner. The arched ceiling creates remarkable acoustics, something our groups discover when toasts echo warmly off the walls. Down here, away from the courtyard's opera performances and the market's energy, you'll find the quiet many of our diners seek. The soft sconces along the walls throw just enough light to read the menu, while the candelabra centrepiece keeps faces warmly lit across the table. We've hung carefully chosen artwork between the stone arches, pieces that complement rather than compete with the architecture. The cellar naturally suits gatherings where conversation matters most. Birthday dinners stretch late into the evening here, with guests settling deeper into those plush chairs as courses arrive. Business groups book it for working lunches that need privacy, spreading documents between the plates. Small wedding parties have made speeches that only their nearest heard, the stone walls keeping their words close. Our kitchen sends everything down fresh, from early breakfast meetings through to late suppers. The wine selection works particularly well in this setting, with our Davy's merchants' bottles looking at home against the historic backdrop.
