The Bar at The Alan comes alive when Manchester's creative crowd takes over for their celebrations. We've watched tech startups toast funding rounds here, design agencies throw Christmas parties that people actually remember, and birthday gatherings spill naturally between the bar and dining tables. The original 1800s brickwork catches everyone's attention first, those weathered reds and browns that tell the building's industrial story. We kept these walls exposed because event photographers love them as backdrops, and frankly, they make any gathering feel more interesting than another glass-box venue. The bar itself runs along one wall, our bartenders working beneath modern shelving that showcases Manchester craft spirits alongside international favorites. For seated dinners, we arrange round and rectangular tables to accommodate 22 guests comfortably. The chairs are proper dining seats, not those wobbly things you get at hotel functions. When cocktail receptions take over, we clear the floor for up to 50 people to mingle, drinks in hand, conversations flowing between the bar and window-side perches. Natural light pours through the large windows during afternoon events, shifting to warm pendant lighting as evening arrives. The mosaic-tiled floors have survived since the building's early days, adding texture underfoot while handling stilettos and dress shoes equally well. Our kitchen team serves everything directly from the main restaurant pass, whether you're after canapés that people actually eat or sit-down meals featuring seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. The drinks menu goes beyond standard wine and beer, though we stock plenty of both. Your music playlist connects to our sound system, with volume respecting the 10pm limit. Getting here couldn't be simpler, positioned between Piccadilly and Victoria stations with tram stops practically at our door. We've got lifts to all floors and ground-level access throughout. Parking operates nearby for those driving in, and our 137 rooms upstairs mean out-of-town guests can stumble straight to bed.
