Rows of archived journals from the Apollo era frame our L.J. Carter Library, where original moon landing documents share shelf space with Soviet space program papers rarely seen outside Moscow. We've carefully preserved this collection since 1933, making it one of the most comprehensive space exploration archives accessible to the public. The library accommodates 18 guests in classroom style or 30 for standing receptions. We've arranged reading tables and comfortable chairs throughout the space, creating natural conversation areas between the towering bookshelves. First edition copies of Arthur C. Clarke's works sit alongside technical manuals from early rocket pioneers, while handwritten notes from Society founders rest in protective cases between the stacks. Documentary crews often choose this room for its authentic backdrop—the spines of thousands of space-related volumes create visual depth that green screens simply can't replicate. We've hosted specialist seminars here where participants can actually handle historic documents during breaks, and the acoustics work surprisingly well for recorded talks despite all the books. Our venue sits less than five minutes from both Vauxhall Mainline and Underground stations on South Lambeth Road. While we don't serve refreshments in the library itself to protect the collection, Vauxhall Park offers plenty of lunch spots nearby, and the Thames Path is just a short walk for those wanting fresh air between sessions. The library works particularly well for breakout discussions during larger conferences, intimate board meetings, or any gathering where you want the weight of space exploration history surrounding your conversations.
