About Down the Hatch
We cook everything from scratch in our basement kitchen on Duke Street, right in the heart of Liverpool's Ropewalks district. Down the Hatch started as a place where we wanted to prove plant-based food could be properly indulgent - think loaded fries piled high with toppings, seitan wings that actually satisfy, and burgers that make meat-eaters do a double-take. Our space works brilliantly for parties because we're tucked away downstairs, giving your group that private feel even when we're not fully booked out. We can section off areas for smaller gatherings or you can take over the whole venue - whatever suits your celebration. Dogs are welcome too, so nobody has to leave their four-legged friends at home. The menu stays the same whether you're popping in for dinner or booking us for your birthday bash - everything's 100% plant-based, from the mains right through to dessert. We mix our cocktails vegan too, using aquafaba instead of egg whites and steering clear of any sneaky animal products. For private events, we work out food and drink packages based on what you actually want, not some set menu you're stuck with. We open Tuesday to Friday from 3pm to 9pm, and weekends from noon to 9pm. Fair warning - we're in a basement so wheelchair access isn't possible right now, but we do offer collection with a discount for anyone who can't make it down the stairs. Corporate groups book us for team gatherings, couples have held their wedding receptions here, and we've hosted everything from milestone birthdays to reunion dinners. The basement setting means the atmosphere stays relaxed no matter what kind of party you're throwing - it's just how we like things at Down the Hatch.
