About Glasgow University Union
Walking through the stone archways of Glasgow University Union feels like stepping into 1885, when our building first opened its doors. We've been hosting celebrations in Glasgow's West End ever since, and our original wood paneling and period details still catch people's eyes when they first arrive. Our Debates Chamber remains the heart of the building - those high ceilings and traditional furnishings create quite an impact when you're planning something special. We can fit 200 people theatre-style here, though most parties prefer the atmosphere when we set it up differently. The Dining Hall transforms beautifully for evening celebrations, with fairy lights strung overhead and our private bar keeping drinks flowing. We seat 160 for formal dinners or pack in 200 when everyone's on their feet dancing. For birthday parties and smaller celebrations, our Drawing Room works perfectly with up to 60 seated guests. The original fireplace and period furniture give it that intimate feel people love. Our Reading Room offers another option - it's quieter, more tucked away, ideal when you need a space for pre-dinner drinks or somewhere guests can catch their breath. Our bars stay fully stocked with everything from local craft beers to premium spirits, and our catering team works in-house, which means we can adjust menus on the fly. Whether you're after canapés and cocktails or a proper three-course dinner, we handle it all from our own kitchens. We've hosted every type of party imaginable in these rooms - milestone birthdays, engagement celebrations, reunion dinners, corporate parties. The building's grandeur does half the work for us, but it's the flexibility of our spaces that keeps people coming back. Each room has its own character, letting you pick the perfect atmosphere for your celebration.
