About Institut francais d'Ecosse
French conversation drifts from our library as we prepare for another busy day at the Institut français d'Écosse, right across from St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh's Old Town. Our building combines French elegance with Scottish architectural heritage, creating spaces that feel both grand and welcoming. Our main space, the Salle Émilienne Moreau-Evrard, draws immediate attention with its soaring decorated ceiling and rich dark wood panels. We can arrange seating for 74 people here, or clear the floor for 120 standing guests. The baby grand piano in the corner gets regular use during concerts, while our cinema screen and projector handle everything from film screenings to corporate presentations. We've installed professional microphones throughout, making this auditorium equally suited for cultural performances and business conferences. Upstairs, the Salle Philippe Kieffer offers a more intimate setting. The substantial table at its center works perfectly for board meetings with 16 people, though we often reconfigure the room for presentations (25 theatre-style) or drinks receptions (30 standing). The TV screen connects easily to laptops via HDMI, and we've added a webcam for hybrid meetings. When groups book this space, we can arrange access to our kitchen facilities. Our second-floor classrooms each accommodate 15 people in U-shape configuration. We've equipped them with whiteboards, projectors, computers and speakers – everything needed for workshops or training sessions. Every floor connects via lift, ensuring step-free access throughout the building. Being minutes from Edinburgh Waverley Station helps our guests arrive stress-free. We provide Wi-Fi across all spaces and maintain modern AV equipment ready for immediate use. Whether you're planning a meeting, workshop, cultural event, or celebration, our spaces adapt to create the atmosphere you need while maintaining that distinctive blend of French and Scottish character.
