About The Roost
The original Victorian pub from 1863 still has all its bones showing at The Roost, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Four floors of worn Georgian features mix with bold artwork and vintage furniture pieces we've collected over the years - think faded wallpaper meeting contemporary art installations, original fireplaces alongside retro sofas, and those gorgeous large French doors that flood the space with natural light. Our ground floor opens right onto the planted garden through those French doors, perfect when your party wants to flow between inside and out. The commercial kitchen means proper catering is sorted, whether you're bringing in your own chef or using one of our recommended suppliers. We're licensed for weddings too, so ceremonies happen right here among all the character. Each floor has its own personality - some with those cozy fireplaces, others with expansive windows overlooking Dalston. The whole building holds up to 150 people standing or 100 seated, though we find most parties naturally spread across the different levels, creating their own little zones. Film crews love the variety of backdrops, from the decaying grandeur of the upper floors to the warmer, more intimate spaces below. We're just a short walk from Hackney Downs station on Sandringham Road, making it easy for guests to find us. The space works brilliantly for everything from full-blown wedding receptions to corporate launches, birthday parties to photo shoots. The raw, unpolished feel means decorations and styling really pop against the backdrop - we've seen everything from minimal setups that let the building speak for itself to elaborate themed parties that transform each room.
