Gilbert Bayes' fountain catches everyone's attention the moment they step into our Courtyard Garden. The sculptor's creation sits at the heart of what was once a bowling lawn, now transformed into a sophisticated outdoor space where up to 175 guests can gather for drinks and celebration. We've watched countless wedding parties toast around this fountain, corporate groups network beneath our large umbrellas, and birthday celebrations spill out here from the adjoining rooms. The paved courtyard creates an intimate atmosphere despite being in the financial district, just off Threadneedle Street. Wildlife-friendly flowers border the space, attracting bees and butterflies during summer events, while our recessed lighting transforms the garden after dark. Those grand stone facades of our 14th-century building rise up around you, their large windows reflecting the evening lights when we host cocktail receptions. We often suggest the Courtyard Garden for the drinks portion of weddings, allowing guests to flow naturally between indoor and outdoor spaces. The layout works particularly well for canapé service, with our staff weaving between groups as conversations flourish. During corporate summer parties, we've set up bars in the corners and watched teams relax after conferences held in our Great Hall. The sheltered nature of the courtyard means even on breezy days, it remains comfortable for guests. Our umbrellas provide shade during afternoon events, while the fountain's gentle sound creates a backdrop that softens city noise. Access from our other function rooms is straightforward, making it simple to incorporate the garden into larger celebrations using multiple spaces. Weather permitting, the Courtyard Garden offers that rare thing in the City, a proper outdoor venue with history, character and space to breathe.
