Step inside The Counting House and you'll find yourself surrounded by 275 years of Edinburgh history. Our grand ballroom catches everyone's attention with its soaring glass dome overhead and original chandeliers casting warm light across the polished floors. We've hosted everything from traditional Scottish ceilidhs with 200 dancers whirling beneath the dome to intimate wedding ceremonies where couples exchange vows in the glow of candlelight. Our 18th-century building in Edinburgh's south city centre offers more than just the ballroom. Through the oak doors, you'll discover our lounge bar - a smaller space where leather armchairs and wood paneling create the perfect atmosphere for pre-dinner drinks or late-night conversations. We keep both bars fully stocked, and our kitchen team prepares everything from canapés to three-course dinners right here in the building. Planning a party means thinking about the details, and we've got them covered. Our projectors and sound systems handle everything from wedding playlists to presentation slides, and with our 1am license, your celebration can continue well past midnight. The original features from 1749 - the cornicing, the marble fireplaces, the mahogany bar - give your event a sense of occasion that modern venues simply can't match. We've seen birthday parties spill from the ballroom into the lounge as guests mingle between spaces. Corporate groups appreciate having exclusive use of the entire building for product launches and company celebrations. The flexibility works particularly well for weddings, where ceremonies happen in the ballroom before guests move to the bar for cocktails while we rearrange for dinner and dancing.
